The Beginning: The Gifted Appear.
Life was normal on Earth. Humans were humans, and they had their cities and their jobs and they dealt with their normal lives like they'd done for thousands of years, but in the year 2065 the Gifted started to appear. They appeared all over the world, and it was out of nowhere, like Evolution had suddenly decided to kick in after thousands of years of being frozen. The ordinary humans weren't pleased, so they started to prosecute these strange beings, forcing them into hiding.
The Revolution: The Gifted Arise
After years of oppression and hiding and pain, the Gifted were enough in number and power to start a war with the humans, a terrible, terrible war. It was long and many people from both sides died. All kinds of weapons were used, leaving most of the earth deserted, salted, unable to grow any more life. Just a portion of the earth was salvaged, but the war continued for ten years, until the Gifted finally won. Most of the humans, now called Giftless, were executed, and the ones left were exiled, left to live as outsiders of society.
What Now?: The Founding of The Nations
The strongest had prevailed, and now the Gifted could live in peace, but most of the Earth was destroyed beyond repair. Anarchy reigned through out the land. In the bit of earth that was left, there was still high technology, and resources for science, but no control over it. No one was happy. They had won a war, they could rule the world... but who was supposed to rule over them?
Then, four brave leaders appeared, four people who seemed to know what they were doing:
-Stefano Baldoni, a man who believed technology had been what had ruined the earth. He gathered people who thought the same as he had, and founded Aprav on the South, the land with no technology. They lived off the gifts of the earth, away from the machines.
-Karolina Cazaj, a woman who valued Gifts over all, she thought that by relating with those with Gifts similar to your own, they became stronger. She hated the Giftless with burning passion and finished the work of segregating them. She wanted Gifts to be pure, untouched by relations, and that way she created the Universal Gift Classification. She named her land Splendor and moved to the North.
-Ronan Flanigan, a man who firmly believed that knowledge and science could only enhance Gifts further. He made the greatest discoveries about Gifts before, during and after the war, almost getting to the bottom of it. His followers keep on with his investigation, trying their best to make Gifts stronger, and to discover more about their origin. He founded Actuaria, and placed it West.
-And Clemence Bartod, a woman who wanted the world to be free. She appreciated Gifts for what they were, but encouraged her people to be as human as they could, she gave them arts and technology to free use, and built an economy on Freedom and respect of property. She placed Crysea on the East, where the coasts were closer to her people and the air was lighter.
Building Padua
And thus, Padua was founded with it's four Nations, and their founders were named Monarchs, because no one would be able to rule like they did but their own descendants. It took years to actually make a society, but once boundaries were built, along with enormous cities and beautiful cites, Padua was starting to look like a long-living Empire. Everyone put their Gifts to the service of their rulers, and for a while, they lived in peace.
Now
It's been a hundred years since the founding of Padua, and a new century is about to start (It's the year of 2182). The Four Nations of Padua, although still standing tall, are not quite what they used to be, they're not what their founders were thinking they would become.
Aprav has turned into a land of few knowledge. All the people know is what they're told. They have no communication with the outside, and they believe technology is satanic and cruel. Every year, children who have turned 13 are drafted for the Army and, without the people's knowledge, genetically modified to make their Gifts stronger with the use of what they hate most: Technology. These children are brainwashed into believing it's some sort of magic, and they serve their Nation with bliss.
Splendor is still the land of Purity, but it is to an extreme that humanity hoped to never see before. People cannot contact the Giftless without risking Execution. If you have a child born without a Gift, you will for sure be eliminated. The land is sectioned, and filled with prejudice, and the people judge their sister Nations for their impurity, declaring war on Aprav and Actuaria.
Acturia is now a place of cruel experimentation. Children and adults of lower social status are used as lab rats for the sake of science, and those in the higher classes spend all their time in deep investigation and there's no time for any type of fun... well, not your conventional type of fun. Actuaria is trying to make super-soldiers, trying to mix Gifts to give every soldier in their army a Gift of each Classification, to make them powerful killing machines.
Crysea is living in chaos. The rich are too rich and the poor are too poor, and it doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon. The rich are vain, lazy and self-indulging, while the poor need money to pay for their food, making a vicious cycle. It's kind of like 18th Century France.
